"Supergirl" is the newest superhero TV series to hit the small screen following in the footsteps of shows like "Arrow," "The Flash," "Gotham" and "Marvel's Agents Of Shield." It airs Mondays on CBS.

I have to admit after watching the first three episodes, it's steadily becoming one of my favorite new shows for the fall. If you haven't checked it out yet, I'm going to give you five reasons why I'm loving this freshman TV series.

    Melissa Benoist!

The producers found their perfect Supergirl in actor Melissa Benoist. The former "Glee" star is ideal as the fish out of water alien who has to balance being a super hero and working a full time job for Cat Grant. She has a certain gleam in her eye as Supergirl and she manages to play shy "Kara with conviction. The series success is based on the main actor and they found the perfect "Supergirl".

    Girl Power!

It comes off a little thick at time but it is refreshing to have a series that young women and girls can emulate. The message is strong in the series that girls can be powerful and self-confident which is a great thing to promote in a series like this.

    Action!

There are lots of flying and super-heroics and the producers have done a nice job balancing out the non-superpower scenes with the superpower scenes. Doing a weekly series can be costly and CBS is managing to give viewers enough "Supergirl" while building on Kara's human backstory moments.

    Calista Flockhart!

Calista Flockhart is fantastic as Cat Grant. A performance ripped out of "The Devil Wears Prada," Cat's snarkiness and arrogance plays well against Kara, Supergirl's mousy disquise. Perry White has been a big supporter of "Superman," so it's nice to have an editor who is looking to exploit Supergirl rather than be her friend.

    It's Fun!

"Supergirl" is not making excuses for not being "dark" like a lot of other super hero shows. The Superman Mythos has always been about hope, hence the "S" on her chest. Supergirl is a thrill ride of up and downs but always ends the episode on a happy note.
