I came home after another long day at the office and my new wife had cleaned up most of the house, ironed my pants and was ready to hear all about my crazy day. This was all after she'd worked a full day herself. Some days I think she may not think I listen to her or that I'm always in tune with her needs.

But following this easy, five-item checklist will show her you are committed to her and the relationship:

1.) Get her a simple, sweet card: It doesn't have to be all lovey-dovey or funny. Just a simple card that says how much you appreciate her and all she does for you and the family.

2.) Surprise her with an unlikely act of service: Has she been asking you to clean up your side of the bed or to change the bulb in the porch light, but you've been too busy? Go home on your lunch break and do what she won't expect you to do today. It will make a difference and she will have a huge smile on her face. In our house, my job is to do the dishes every night, and Kristina does the laundry. Once in a while she will do the dishes and the laundry. Very rarely do I end up doing both, but if I can get home early and do the laundry real quick she would know that I care.

3.) Candles and wine: This one is simple. Light a large three-wick candle and uncork a bottle of her favorite wine with two glasses. Wait until she sees it, then pour away.

4.) Give her a short massage or foot rub: Just sit down on the couch next to her and offer to rub her feet or her back for an extended period of time. You know how you normally give her a two-minute cheap massage, make this one the real deal.

5.) Tell her how much you appreciate her: You will be extremely surprised how much it will mean to her if you just stop for one second and tell her how much you appreciate her and all she does. That's it, say thank you and shower her with specific compliments about things she's done. It will mean a lot and cost you nothing but your time.
