• The House Agriculture Committee met Thursday to consider the budget views and estimates letter for the 2015 fiscal year, the Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act and a resolution commemorating the act that established the nationwide Cooperative Extension System.

    With the enactment of a farm bill that contributes to deficit reduction and reforms every facet of farm, nutrition and conservation policy, House Ag Chair Frank Lucas says the committee will now focus on its oversight role to ensure USDA administers food and nutrition programs in a fiscally responsible way and implements the reforms of the farm bill as Congress intended.

  • The United States Potato Board (USPB) has elected Idaho potato farmer Brett Jensen as the new USPB Chairman for 2014.

    Jensen was elected to the position during the USPB’s Annual Meeting in Colorado Springs. The meeting included a look at a new grower survey and adoption of a long range plan.

    There was also discussion of how to best combat the exclusion of white potatoes from the Women, Infant and Children’s or WIC program.
