I've been fortunate enough to have never had to live in a car, but I know people who have and it's not fun. Yakima County seems to have a large homeless population. We also have a number of homeless teens who seek services from Rod's House. The Bill Harris Used Cars/Townsquare Media 10 deeds in 10 days campaign is about creating awareness and raising money for several great local charities.

Rik, Michele and I hopped into a crane last year and broadcast 12 hours to help Bill Harris assist our friends. This year we will attempt to live in a car for three days -- this Thursday through Saturday (Oct. 9-11) -- to draw attention to the cause and to raise awareness about what some of our neighbors are forced to deal with.

So get ready to help out some Yakima Valley families in need by donating this weekend. The weather is starting to turn and it's cold at night. Food and clothing are very much needed and we would love to see you at Wray's, 56th and Summitview avenues, sometime in the next few days.

Meantime, here's some advice for anyone who ends up living in a car with their co-workers:

  • Take a shower before you get in the car
  • Bring lots of air freshener
  • Charge your electronics
  • Antibacterial hand sanitizer
  • In this case, don't call shotgun
  • Talk your friends into bringing you goodies throughout the days
  • Keep the windows rolled down, except at night
  • At night, don't answer the door
  • Hire a garbage man to come get your trash or have a large litter bag
