Rik Mikals

I’ve been up and down the radio dial as the famous "WKRP in Cincinnati" line goes. I started right out of high school in 1988 in my hometown of Clarkston, Wash at KCLK-FM, a country station, and from there moved all over Idaho, Montana, California and Washington state at various radio stations. I worked on KMPS-FM in Seattle in the late 1990s and moved to Yakima in 1998 as program director of 107-3 KFFM. I moved again and again (because I can't seem to keep a job) until I was in Bakersfield, California, and then Tri-Cities, and then back to Yakima, and again to Tri-Cities as morning show host and brand manager of 98.3 The Key. I bought a farm in Prosser a few years back with my wife Megan and we sold it last year and we now live in Kennewick. We have three great dogs named Phoebe, Barkley and Roxy. My son is an aspiring musician and plays, performs and writes original music. I also have a stepson named Kyran who is just starting high school. I’m known for having a never-ending knowledge of pop culture and easily get addicted to TV reality shows. I like "Star Trek," Mustangs (the car) and '80s music which is the era I seem to be stuck in. I’m also a huge comic book fan, having a comic collection easily totaling more than 6,000 comics with some rare comic books thrown in for good measure.

Mountain Dew’s New Label Is Driving Me Nuts

I'm an avid Mountain Dew drinker as you may know from me talking about it all the time on my radio show.

I think if our listeners had to pick one thing that they remember most about me, it'd be my consumption of "The Dew."

They know Mountain Dew is a daily part of my life, but recently Mountain Dew has me taking a second take at the grocery store due to their new labels.

Brewminatti’s Is Prosser’s Best-Kept Music-Venue Secret [VIDEO]

If you're a fan of music, there's a place in the sleepy little town of Prosser that you have to check out.

Brewminatti's opened in the fall of 2015 at 713 Sixth St., and my wife can't get enough of it. She's dragged me to several great shows at this eclectic coffee/tea shop.

I have experienced some really great concerts there, and I've come to realize that it might be Prosser's best-kept secret.

Can You Drive A Stick Shift? [POLL]

I saw this photo that a friend of mine posted on Facebook and thought it was funny.

It never occurred to me that driving a stick shift had become a lost art until I tried to teach my son Logan to drive my pickup last fall -- it was a complete disaster.

Dating Etiquette: Do’s and Don’ts Can Make the Difference Between Will and Won’t

Michele is gone this week, but luckily we have our "Be A Bull DJ" contest winner, Lindsay, filling in on the Morning Bull Pen.

Lindsay's currently single, and we started talking this morning about how hard dating can be in 2017.

I told her that my foster mom drilled into me how to treat a woman on a first date. It started from opening the door for her to paying the bill to waiting until she orders and so forth.

But as a current dater, Lindsay, says a lot of traditional dating etiquette has gone away -- she blames the impersonal world of social media, where courtesy and manners are often shouted down in brash, rude conversations that aren't even carried out face to face. Lindsay thinks men should "understand that in the early stages of dating, a woman is providing you with the opportunity to make a great impression. Take advantage of this time frame."

Listeners seem to agree. They've helped us start compiling some dating etiquette suggestions that should be adhered to.

It’s Quirky Country Music Song Title Day — Here Is What I Found For You [VIDEO]

It's Quirky Country Music Song Title Day and sometimes that 'ol stereotype of country music comes home to roost. There is some truth in the stereotype as country songs' subject matter has been across the spectrum from funny to sad from novel to depressing.

I don't think any other genre of music can lay claim to the classic quirky titles that country music has in their musical barn.

I went and dug up some titles that perhaps should've stayed buried.

New Justice League Trailer Takes Me Back To 1978 [VIDEO]

My generation would say seeing "Star Wars" in 1977 at the movie theater had a profound effect on them, but for me it was the first time I saw "Superman: The Movie."

I was 8 years old and I couldn't wait to see that movie.

I lived 30 miles from the nearest movie theater, so the car ride to the show was possibly the most excruciating thing a kid could endure, I was so excited that I was beside myself.
