Rik Mikals

I’ve been up and down the radio dial as the infamous. I started right out of high school in 1988 in my hometown of Clarkston, Washington, at KCLK – a country station -- and from there moved all over Idaho, Montana, California and Washington state at various radio stations. I was on KMPS in Seattle in the 1990’s and moved to Yakima in 1998 as Program Director of KFFM. I moved again and again until I was in Bakersfield, California, and then Tri-Cities, Washington, and then back to Yakima, and again to Tri-Cities and more! I bought a farm in Prosser, Washington, a few years back with my wife Megan and we have 3 great dogs named Phoebe, Barkley and Roxy. My son is an aspiring musician and plays, performs and writes original music. I also have a stepson named Kyran. I’m known for having a never ending knowledge of pop culture and easily get addicted to TV reality shows. I love Star Trek, Mustangs (the car) and 80's music. I’m a huge comic book fan having a comic collection easily totally over 6,000 comics.

As we head into Watershed Weekend #2, The Morning Bullpen surprised Julie with a random act of Bullness. It started with Kris, another Bull listener, donated their Watershed tickets back to the radio station. It was a perfect opportunity to pay it forward on an unsuspecting listener.

What If Marvel Comic Book Characters Had A Facebook [VIDEO]

I am so pumped up for the premiere of Marvel's Dr. Strange on November 4th. You can bet I'll have my feet kicked up on the back of a seat cushion at the Sunnyside Grand Cinema with a big ole' bucket of popcorn awaiting the arrival of the Sorcerer Supreme. I've been a huge fan of the Steve Ditko character since his inception and the thought of finally seeing the cloaked one on the big screen boggles my mind.

How Glen Campbell Saved Me From Fifth Grade Choir [VIDEO]

I was driving home today in my cherry-red Mustang and blaring out of my rolled-down windows were the sweet sounds of Glen Campbell. I've become a fan in recent years and as he fights a deadly disease, I know we will soon lose one of the great country legends.

As I drove home to Prosser tonight, a particular song came on from my Glen Campbell's "10 Greatest Hits" and I was instantly back in the fifth grade at Whitman Elementary in Lewiston, Idaho.

I recalled that's when Glen Campbell saved me from being in the fifth grade choir.

Pacific Northwest Native To Helm Brand New Star Trek TV Series [VIDEO]

I'm a big Star Trek fan, even over Star Wars. I remember being a young kid and along with my brothers and sisters we would play Star Trek all the time. We'd arrange the furniture in the front room and we were lucky that we had a large front room window that substituted as our Enterprise view screen.

I'd place my Dad's recliner as my Captain's chair in the center of the room with my brother and sister using the old giant record console as their navigation. The best part is when we "beamed" down to the planet, it was outside

Prosser Fire Burns A Little Too Close To Home [PHOTOS]

The Horse Heaven Hills were aflame Sunday night -- just beyond my backyard on Byron Road in Prosser. My wife shot some photos of the out-of-control wildfire. I'm a Washington native, and I've always lived near a few fires but never have I seen a fire this close up.

Lessons I’ve Learned From Store Closings — Hastings Edition

Hastings, the entertainment superstore, will be closing their doors forever by Oct. 31 in the Tri-Cities. It's a sad situation, but brick and mortar stores seem to be struggling these days, especially ones catering to the entertainment business.

I liked Hastings and I loved that they expanded over the years to include comic books, clothing and collectible pop-culture items. I loved that I could touch and feel everything before I bought it, but those days seem to be coming to an end ... and sadly, it makes sense.
