Rik Mikals

I’ve been up and down the radio dial as the famous "WKRP" line goes. I started right out of high school in 1988 in my hometown of Clarkston, Wash,, at KCLK – a country station -- and from there moved all over Idaho, Montana, California and Washington state at various radio stations. I was on KMPS in Seattle in the 1990s and moved to Yakima in 1998 as program director of KFFM. I moved again and again until I was in Bakersfield, Calif,, and then Tri-Cities, and then back to Yakima, and again to Tri-Cities and more! I bought a farm in Prosser a few years back with my wife Megan, and we have three great dogs named Phoebe, Barkley and Roxy. My son is an aspiring musician and plays, performs and writes original music. I also have a stepson named Kyran. I’m known for having a never-ending knowledge of pop culture and easily get addicted to TV reality shows. I love "Star Trek," Mustangs (the car) and '80s music. I’m a huge comic book fan, having a comic collection easily totaling more than 6,000 comics.

Last Set of the Summer: Zach Hinson’s Show Was a Perfect Ending to Downtown Summer Nights [VIDEO]

For the first time since early June, we can't look forward to our favorite Thursday night gathering, Downtown Summer Nights. Sadly, the free concert series on North Front Street ended up last week.

But we still have our memories -- and one of our fondest is listening to Yakima's own Zach Hinson and his band, who closed out the summer with a dynamite set.

UBER is coming to Kennewick with potential UBER drivers having to register as Taxi Drivers. It's been a long drawn out process to bring the super popular service back to the Tri-Cities after a year of negotiations.

Days For Girls Is Looking For Help in Yakima

Michele and I had this great charity, Days For Girls, on the air a few months back.

I never realized that girls around the world in third world nations didn't have access to basic clothing and feminine products.

Days For Girls is a nonprofit organization in Yakima that sends underwear, wash cloths and Ziploc bags to make a difference in the lives of young women around the world -- and they're holding an event Aug. 20 at the Harman Center, 101 N. 65th Ave., in Yakima.

It's a great cause, but they need your help.

Brett Eldredge Gives Edgar The Puppy “Star” Lessons At Watershed [VIDEO]

Brett Eldredge loves his new puppy Edgar and he brought him both weekends to Watershed. I saw Brett backstage and asked about Edgar. Brett told me Edgar was exhausted from all of the attention. I see now why Edgar was absent at the meet and greet because he was being put through his paces with "Star" training from Brett.

Today Is National Vinyl Day — What Was Your First Disc? [VIDEO]

It's National Vinyl Day, and for those us of who grew up on those spinning discs, it's a day of remembrance of what was our first vinyl purchase. I remember buying my first 45 on a class trip to Portland and it was Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse Of The Heart." The first 33 disc I bought was an album no one would expect me to buy, and I've never told the story until today.
