Billy Gilman stuck to his country roots during Monday night's (Nov. 28) The Voice Top 10 round: The singer covered Martina McBride's "Anyway."

Accompanied by a cadre of string players, Gilman stood on a raised platform on the TV singing competition's stage as lights beamed throughout the studio. Coach Miley Cyrus told Gilman after his performance that the stage setup was "so beautiful, and it just heightened what you already are."

"Everyone knows you can sing, they know your story, but, man, I just can't explain to everybody how special what we've just heard is ...," Gilman's The Voice coach, Adam Levine, told the artist after he finished his song. "I'm blown away, man; I'm amazed by you."

"Anyway" became a Top 5 country hit for McBride following its release in November of 2006. Following Gilman's performance, McBride tweeted her approval: "Just saw u do "Anyway" on @NBCTheVoice, and it BLEW ME AWAY."

Gilman skyrocketed to stardom following the release of “One Voice,” his debut single, in 2000; he was 11 years old at the time, making him the youngest country artist to ever earn a Top 40 hit. Gilman’s album of the same name earned double-platinum status, but his following singles and albums did not achieve the same level of success. In November of 2014, Gilman revealed that he is gay — and called out the country music industry to support LGBTQ artists.

Gilman first landed on Team Adam during The Voice‘s blind auditions. Fans who would like to see Gilman advance to the Top 8 of the TV singing competition can vote for him on the show’s official website and download his version of “Anyway” on iTunes prior to eliminations on Tuesday night (Nov. 29).
