Brad Paisley talks Public Speaking on “National Speak Up and Succeed Day” (Jan 25)
Mmmm….I feared you might say this! You have a fear of speaking! It’s alright just picture everyone NAKED! Ewwww….maybe not!
Over 97% of Americans have some fear of public speaking, yet the top-rated skill for success is effective communication skills. Today is the day to face your fears.

We get stage fright because:
- We’re afraid we will look foolish
- We’ll make a mistake (?)
- We will disappoint the boss
- Our expertise will be questioned
- We may not have prepared properly
The ancient Greeks called this dreadful sensation glossophibia. Glossa is Greek for tongue, and phobos means fear.
The Greeks also had another word that could describe stage fright: agoraphobia, which is the fear of crowds. Agora is the Greek word for marketplace.
