Brandi Carlile has announced a set of fall tour dates -- and she's going all the way unplugged.

The Pin Drop Tour will feature Carlile, her band the Twins (Tim and Phil Hanseroth) and cellist Josh Neumann at small theaters and completely unplugged, without microphones and amps.

“I found myself totally mesmerized by what can happen when you invite the room into a song like that,” Carlile says. “The only people who get to hear the part that the history of these rooms can play in a performance are the artists that show up before the speakers come on ... This is our chance to let fans in on this secret.”

Carlile and her band were inspired to try a non-amplified tour after an experience that some musicians might consider a nightmare.

“One night, in the middle of our 30-minute set, the entire PA system stopped working,” Carlile says of a show years ago. “Tim suggested that we just walk out to the front of the stage and play our loudest song. We were so surprised to hear the sound thundering back at us from the end of the room, and the crowd loved hearing the room, too."

The tour's set list will include tunes off Carlile's fifth studio album, which she recently finished recording, as well as favorites from throughout her career.

“Without giving away too many surprises, I imagine this to be a very vocal-centric set," she says. "Heavy on the humanity and light on the affectation. Lots of human percussion and hollering!”

Presale tickets are available now on Carlile's website. General on sale begins Friday (Aug. 15).
