Brantley Gilbert Poser Pleads Guilty in Theft Case, Apologizes

Thomas Michael Barth

Back in April, Brantley Gilbert experienced a real shock when he learned that an Indiana man had been posing not only as him, but also as his manager and producer. Now, the Gilbert imposter, 25-year-old Thomas Michael Barth, has pleaded guilty to two counts of felony theft.

Online, Barth claimed to be Gilbert’s manager and photographer — and later posed as Gilbert himself — when he sent messages to Robert’s Signs, a business in Indiana, as well as musician Kevin Kyle. Under the guise of Gilbert’s fame, the conman received more than $8,000 worth of personalized products and clothing from Robert’s Signs during a three-month period. He also obtained more than $4,000 in musical and electronic equipment from Kyle, as well as a computer.

If the judge accepts Barth’s plea, he will most likely avoid a prison sentence, but will have to pay a hefty $12,000 in restitution. As expected, the man is very apologetic after being caught.

“I’m very sorry for who I hurt, including my family and friends. I have been working hard to change my life and I currently am working a job so I can pay it back,” Barth told Stacey Page Online. His sentencing will be decided on Dec. 3.

As for Gilbert, he can rest assured that his identity is safe for now. The ‘You Don’t Know Her Like I Do’ singer has had a busy year touring with Eric Church and Toby Keith, and now is headlining his own Hell on Wheels Tour. The last thing he needs to worry about is some slouch stealing the name which he worked so hard to earn.
