Brett Eldredge has been honored in a big way by his hometown of Paris, Ill. The city wanted to recognize its local celebrity by creating a "Brett Eldredge Day" and that's just what the powers-that-be did for the country star.

The people of Paris put together quite a celebration for newly-created honor.

About 2,000 people showed up to help celebrate as llinois Governor Pat Quinn made it all official. The locals also put up signs to let everyone know that this is Eldredge's hometown.

The singer took to his Twitter account to express his excitement about receiving the key to the city and to share the news with his fans.

He was clearly stoked about having his own day in his hometown and his excitement leapt off the screen. He posted: "They gave me a key to the city!? This is crazy! Let's go open doors and stuff! I love Paris Illinois! Thank you!"

Eldredge has quite a busy year coming up in 2014. He's joining two pretty big acts for their tours.

He will be alongside Keith Urban for the next leg of his Light the Fuse tour and also will join Billy Currington for his We Are Tonight tour. Urban's tour starts Jan. 9 in Mich., with a full itinerary of dates listed on his website.

The Currington tour starts a little later -- March 6 in Tulsa, Okla. Full dates for Currington's tour are on his website.
