It is hard to get kids to listen sometimes. Grounding them -- even taking away their electronics -- just doesn't always work. Kids nowadays think that their electronics are the most important things in their life. Most of the kids say they cannot live without them.
So what if parents just smashed those precious electronics to smithereens?
In a world where we need a few laughs these days, Riverside Christian School has announced that comedian Michael Jr. is coming to town for a Friday (Feb. 3) show at 7 p.m. It should be a fun night to come out, laugh and have a good time.
Jim Gaffigan, actor, writer, producer, Grammy-nominated comedian, New York Times best-selling author, top touring performer, and multiplatinum-selling father of five, will bring his live “Fully Dressed” tour to the Yakima Valley SunDome.
I went to a Historic Front Street Association meeting the other day at North Town Coffeehouse. Front Street is the setting for our Downtown Summer Nights concert series, and I always love going there. It reminds me of when I was a kiddo and my mom and dad and I used to visit faraway places by taking the train.
I really do not like driving in snow. But I admit it, the snow is really cool looking and fun to play in. One of my favorite things to do in the winter is ice fish. A lake that is just outside of Yakima is perfect for it. What is even more cool about the lake is, most people do not even go there during the winter, so it is usually just me and a handful of people. That is it!
There are a lot of charities out there, and I'd love to be involved with most of them. Pegasus Project is one of them -- such an incredible cause. They provide therapy for adults and children with special needs by getting them on horseback and teaching them to care for horses -- which helps clients cope with what they are going through. The Pegasus Project is always in need of donations.
The second annual Chili Cookoff at Owens Cycle last Saturday was awesome! We had a great time with the United States Marine Corps and the YWCA! All the bike clubs in town came out and entered their chili!
It's the time of year when chili just sounds good. And if you're particular about your chili and like to have more than one kind to taste, Owens Cycle has a treat for you: The second annual Chili Cook Off gets underway this Saturday (Dec. 3) at 11 a.m. in the Harley-Davidson dealer's parking lot, 1707 S. First St.
