Moxee Hop Fest Set For This Weekend

Having lived in East Valley for the past nine years, it has been fun to watch the resurgence and year-to-year growth in popularity of the annual Moxee Hop Festival.
This year's weekend celebration of one of the valley's biggest cash crops will be no different I'm sure.

WWE is coming back to Yakima on Sunday Aug. 10 and Diva Natalya will find herself in a triple-threat match against Paige and AJ for the Divas Title. There are still a few more ringside seats available and you can even win a pair of tickets in our Twitter contest.

Watermelon Salad? Yes Please!

Summer is here and you know what that means? Besides 100-degree heat and dehydration it means fresh, sweet watermelon.

I love watermelon by itself, but it tastes even better when someone who knows what they're doing prepares it with local ingredients and tops it off with balsamic vinegar, fresh mint leaves and chilli powder. The salad also features feta cheese and crisp red onions.

Gasperetti's on North First Street is currently featuring the Grilled Watermelon Feta Salad. The price: $8.50. This summer treat will definitely hit the spot.

Mayor’s Blog: First Trip Through the Yakima MLK Underpass [VIDEO]

It's officially open for traffic now -- the Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard underpass was dedicated today by a number of statewide and local leaders. I had the honor of hosting the ceremony that included speeches from state Sen. Curtis King and regional director Don Whitehouse, regional director of the state Department of Transportation.

Take Nothing for Granted. My Son with Severe Autism Just Watched an Entire Movie at the Theater

My son, Jaron, has autism. If he's not interested in something, he's quick to move on to the next thing. Even his most favorite TV shows only keep his interest for a few minutes. He'll rarely get through half an hour of anything, let along a full-length feature film.

Then you have to add that we're in a strange places surrounded by strangers. Thanks to Children's Village and the Yakima Theaters, my son was able to see a movie for the first time -- and he sat down the entire time!

I Found a Secret Option at the Rosauers Bakery

I'm a huge fan of secret menu items. Those are those things you can order, but aren't on the menu. But when you ask for them, they usually know exactly what you're talking about.
