Mother-in-law jokes didn't just come out of thin air -- friction between a parent and that parent's son or daughter's spouse has been going on ever since society invented marriage.

This week's Couples Court case is a prime example.

Dear Rik and Michele:
I have the mother-in-law from hell. She's the worst person I've ever met. She's already broken up my husband's brother's marriage and now she wants to do the same to mine. She's always interfering in our affairs. My husband thinks she's just trying to "help."
We had a huge fight last week because she told him to take his dress shirt off so she could iron it properly. I told him that if he did, I was "walking out" because I had already ironed it. His mother burst into her usual "fake tears" routine and made me the "BAD GUY."
All I want is a happy, drama-free family. I've told my husband there's zero chance of that happening until he cuts the cord with his mommy. How do I get my husband to stop being a mama's boy? Or is my marriage doomed?
Once a mama's boy, always a mama's boy?

Sounds like this guy's caught between a rock and a hard place! Is his wife's frustration understandable or unreasonable?

See you in court ...
