Craig Morgan didn't get invited to the CMA Awards on looks alone -- the versatile country singer/songwriter has spent the past 15 years cranking out hits like "International Harvester," "That's What I Love About Sunday" and "Almost Home."

The 51-year-old U.S. Army veteran has also made a name for himself for his charity work and his advocacy for military service people. He's performed on numerous military bases at home and abroad through the USO.

While he was getting slicked up for Wednesday night's show, the Tennessee native took a few minutes to talk about what makes a hit song.

As you'd expect, he knowing whether you're hearing a hit or a have-not isn't a particularly scientific process -- even for a guy who's hit the Billboard charts 17 times.
