MLB.com

The parent club of the Yakima Bears selected catcher Stryker Trahan with the 26th overall pick yesterday in the first round of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player’s Draft.

Trahan is a six-foot-one high school player at Acadiana High School in Louisiana, where he bats left and throws right. He had committed to play collegiately at Ole Miss prior to being drafted.

According to Maxpreps.com Trahan hit .460 with nine doubles, five home runs, and 31 RBIs in 111 plate appearances over the Acadiana Rams’ 35 games this spring.

With their second selection, the D-backs drafted shortstop Jose Munoz in the second round (No. 90 overall) from Los Altos High School in Northern California.

The San Diego State commit was tabbed as the 86th best prospect by ESPN.com.

The draft will continue with the 16th round Wednesday starting at 9:00am each day and continuing until all 40 rounds are complete.

Many of the players drafted will be reporting to Yakima June 13 for a summer with the Bears. The club looks to have its roster set by June 14.

The Yakima Bears begin the season June 15 in Eugene and will play at home for the first time on June 20. Season tickets and mini plans are on sale now at the downtown Bears office at 17 N. 3rd Street, Suite 101 and online at yakimabears.com.
