On the heels of this morning’s shootings at a ‘Dark Knight Rises‘ screening in Aurora, Colorado that left 12 dead and 50 injured, Warner Bros. is considering cancelling screenings of the film across the country.

According to The Wrap, executives gathered in the wee hours of the morning in their Burbank, California offices to discuss an appropriate course of action. The Paris screening has already been cancelled, but executives are still deciding whether or not to cancel other screenings nationwide.

UPDATE – According to Variety, after careful consideration Warner Bros. has decided not to alter their original screening schedule for ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ Local theater chains still may cut back on the amount of screenings.

A Regal theater chain spokesman commented, “We will continue to monitor the situation and adjust our security needs as necessary.” AMC theaters did not have a comment.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ hit 3,700 theaters at midnight, with a planned total of 4,404 screens intended by the end of the weekend and a record-breaking 332 IMAX screens.

As of now, Warner Bros. hasn’t released a second statement following their initial response this morning:

Warner Bros. and the filmmakers are deeply saddened to learn about this shocking incident. We extend our sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time.

There’s no word on the number or location(s) of the possibly cancelled screenings, but we’ll keep you updated should the studio make an official announcement.
