Did You Go to Baccalaureate? Do You Even Know What It Is?

What is Baccalaureate? Rik had never heard of Baccalaureate, and I really didn't know how to explain it to him -- which is funny, since one of my sons graduated last year and I attended a Baccalaureate, and now I have another child graduating in a couple days.

I tried to tell Rik that's it's similar to a religious service with speakers who pray for the graduating class.

It's optional. Not all the kids have to attend and you don't have to be religious. Grads-to-be only wear their gowns for Baccalaureate, not their caps.

I looked up the definition of Baccalaureate -- a religious service held at an educational institution, usually on the Sunday before commencement day.
