The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says the greater sage grouse will not be listed under the Endangered Species Act. But, in a mixed announcement, the Bureau of Land Management and the USDA Forest Service also announced their decision to move forward with land management plans which address sage grouse populations across the birds’ 184 million acre range. The new plans add new land use restrictions which may affect the timing of range improvements, reduce livestock numbers, eliminate or reduce actively permitted grazing allotments, or impact the ability to renew future livestock permits.

The World Trade Organization decision is scheduled for late November. The decision is the result of the recently completed arbitration hearings by a WTO arbitration panel. Canada is seeking more than $3 billion in tariffs against the United States for failing to repeal US COOL regulations. U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman said Canada’s claims are overvalued. Froman asked the WTO to determine how much Canada can claim through retaliatory tariffs. Mexico is seeking WTO authorization for more than $653 million. The WTO delivered its fourth and final ruling against COOL in May.
