When a big-screen, CG-animated ‘Peanuts‘ movie was announced, many people groaned a hearty “good grief!,” worried they would ruin the cartoon classic. But, today we get a first look at Charlie Brown and Snoopy in the ‘Peanuts’ movie and, you know what? It looks very faithful to the classic Charles Schultz design.

The last time Charlie Brown and Snoopy were seen on the big screen was back in 1980 with ‘Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown (and Don’t Come Back!)’ but the duo are set to return with a modern, 3D adventure in ‘Peanuts’, which is set for release on November 6, 2015.

As you can see in the photo above (via USA Today), the style of the film is remarkably similar to the classic design (they thankfully didn’t try to have live-action kids with a CG-animated Snoopy a la ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’) with just some three-dimensional flourishes. If you zoom into Snoopy, you can see that he actually has very soft, white fur (check out the photo below for a closer look).

There are a few reasons to think this new ‘Peanuts’ movie could work: it was written by Schultz’s son Bryan; it is directed by Steve Martino, who has experience adapting classic stories (‘Horton Hears a Who’); and, it is being produced by Paul Feig (‘Bridesmaids’ and ‘The Heat’).

The latter of that group promises the story, which will reunite all your favorite characters from the comic strips and animated specials, will remain true to the spirit of the originals. “Snoopy will not be rapping, no one will be twerking.”

The plot remains unknown at this point, but audiences will meet “the Little Red-Haired Girl” for the first time and a portion of the film will follow Snoopy’s imagined adventures in World War I.
