The Yakima Rotaries ran a U Rule Yakima contest a few weeks back pitting the Huskies against the Cougars. The announcement came down last week and the Washington State University Cougars have taken over Yakima!

Last night, singer/songwriter Anders Osborne played The Seasons Performance Hall in Yakima. Osborne is currently on tour with legendary Reggae/SKA act Toots and The Maytals in support of their acoustic only tour. Now you’re probably wondering “why is an act like Anders Osborne being featured on The Bull?” Well the fact is his song “Watch the Wind Blow By” was recorded by Country superstar Tim McGraw and the fact that single was number 1 for 2 straight weeks selling over 3 million albums. Osborne is also professional songwriter in Nashville where he continues to work with many artist’s today.

I had the opportunity to shoot last nights show at The Seasons Performance Hall and have included a few shots; which you can only find here at 92.9 The Bull.

Today at Jack in the Box on S. 1st street we kicked of the first of many stops to raise money and collect toys and cash for needy children here in the Yakima Valley.  This holiday season is going to be tough on families and we want to help those in need. We have teamed up with the US Marines and Legends Casino to setup shop at different locations around the area.

I was lucky enough to be present for all of the pregame ceremonies which included the flipping over of 52,200 colored cards to display the message “Thank You Veterans.”

It sent chills down my back, but it got even better…
The entire team was lead out onto the field by Retired U.S. Army SGT. Erin Schaefer – a double amputee.

That was followed by the stirring ceremonial raising of the 12th Man Flag.  The honor was given to World War II fighter pilot and Ferndale native Joe Moser.

We received around $2,500 in cash and thousands of pounds of non-perishable food items.  Our goal of filling the Mayflower truck was reached and surpassed.  Thank you so much.

I gotta tell you, it was miserable living on top of that Mayflower Moving Truck.  But it was for a great cause and our mission to create awareness and bring in food was accomplished.  So it was all worth it.

I do want to thank Bill Harris, Wrays, Grumpy’s Outdoor Supply, Star Rentals, Selah Septic, Crown Moving Inc, Starbucks, Rods House, YWCA, Selah Food Bank, Catering Creations by Toni, and the great listeners who brought me coffee throughout the weekend.  THANK YOU!  I really cannot say it enough.  If it wasn’t for you, I may still be on that Mayflower truck today.  So Thank You!

Also, thank you to KIMA TV for covering this event.  The reason we did this was to create awareness and generate a significant amount of money and food for area charities.  It’s great to see local tv news still covering good community stories!

Ernie Conwell was honored by the Washington Huskies on Saturday October 13th 2012 as a “Husky Legend”.  Conwell was honored with his family in front of the 66,000 fans at Century Link Field in Seattle Washington.
