George Strait surprised the crowd at SXSW 2016, showing up to give an unannounced performance at a birthday bash for Asleep at the Wheel's Ray Benson.

According to Billboard, Strait turned up on Tuesday night (March 15), joining Benson and Asleep at the Wheel onstage for a set of his hits that included “Troubador,” “The Fireman” and “Here for a Good Time," as well as "All My Ex's Live in Texas," which is captured in the video clip above. Benson’s Birthday Bash featured additional appearances by the Avett Brothers, Dale Watson, Sunny Sweeney and more, and Strait also contributed items to a silent auction to benefit the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians.

It's been a week of surprise performances at the annual festival, with Willie Nelson dropping in at the Spotify House on Sunday (March 13). This year's SXSW lineup also features regularly scheduled performances from Kacey MusgravesMaren Morris, Lanco, Loretta LynnWhitney RoseBobby Bare Jr. and more. Nelson will also host an event at his Luck, Texas, ranch, with Jenny Lewis, Lucius, Blitzen Trapper, Billy Joe ShaverJohn Moreland, Insects vs. Robots (which features Nelson's son, Micah), Jack Ingram,Jamie Lin Wilson, Ray Wylie Hubbard, the Black Lillies and more slated to perform.

Strait retired from active touring in 2014, but he has promised fans that he will continue to perform at awards shows and select events, and fans will have the chance to see him live in Las Vegas beginning in April, when he launches his Strait to Vegas residency at the Las Vegas Arena.
