As a parent we are faced with times when we have to tell our kids something difficult.

Last night was one of those nights for me.

I found out that one of my sons classmate and friend had drowned. I didn't want him to hear it first from other friends or people, so it needed to come from me.

Other than when I had to tell him his grandma died this was the hardest thing I've had to do. His grandma had been sick, so we knew it was going to happen. This was different.

I did what I thought was best and just told him what happened. He just sat there in shock. After what seemed like minutes he got up, hugged me and went to his room. I told him that if he needed to talk that I'm always here for him.

Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the family.
