This is good news, for those who like remakes of old shows. TNT is giving the iconic nighttime soap opera "Dallas," which ran from 1978 to 1991, new life. after some dealmaking drama, the network has officially announced that three stars from the original series have joined the new cast. Larry Hagman will return as J.R. Ewing, Linda Gray will come back as his wife Sue Ellen Ewing, and Patrick Duffy will be brother Bobby. Technically, I guess, that makes the new "Dallas" a sequel.

The show will revolve around the children, of course, as J.R.'s son John Ross, played by Josh Henderson ("Desperate Housewives), vies with Bobby's adopted son, Christopher (still uncast), for the future of the Ewing empire and for a woman named Elena, played by Jordana Brewster. Elena is the daughter of the Ewing ranch cook. The new "Dallas" joins the wave of TV reboots, sequels, updates, and remakes -- all known as brand extensions -- that have recently included "Hawaii Five-0," "Melrose Place," "La Femme Nikita," "Beverly Hills 90210," and "The Bionic Woman."
