Jennifer Nettles has been teasing her new record for a while, but now fans can finally mark a date on their calendars. The artist has set a May 13 release date for Playing With Fire, an album she takes great pride in and can’t wait for people to hear.

"I am so proud of this record," Nettles expresses in a release. "I can't wait to share it with my fans and hear their reactions. It is a ton of sass and emotion and fun."

The new album — Nettles’ second as a solo artist apart from Sugarland — is produced by country vet Dann Huff and features 11 new tracks, including the lead-off single “Unlove You.” Nettles says the record is different than her previous projects and will “keep it real,” reflecting her stage of life as a performer and a mom.

“The way I approached this whole project was different because I’m a different person than I was several years ago,” she explains. “I have different stories to tell; I have different experiences now.”

She’s also said Playing With Fire will have a well blended style, marrying traditional country sounds with newer ones. "I think there’s a nice balance on this project of traditional country roots with something fun and fresh and new,” the singer explains.

According to Big Machine Label Group president Scott Borchetta, the record is brimming with future chart-toppers. “The record that she brought to us is something she’s been working on for a while, and she brought hits to the table,” he says.

Nettles is currently on the CMT Next Women of Country Tour with Brandy Clark, Lindsay Ell and Tara Thompson. She’s also got a unique episode of CMT Crossroads coming out March 24 — a collaboration with rock band Cheap Trick.
