Jennifer Nettles scoured the entire country to find her second contestant for ‘Duets,’ but the Georgia native found the lucky singer in her own backyard — literally. It was at a hometown 4H ceremony honoring Nettles as Alumni of the Year that the Sugarland lead singer had the idea to audition members of Clovers & Company, a 4H singing group which actually gave Nettles her first taste of success.

Nettles ultimately picked John Glosson of Douglas, Ga. as her final hopeful, taking the stage with the big-voiced singer to sing Sugarland’s Grammy Award-winning song, ‘Stay.’ The two powerhouses literally brought the house down with the acoustic performance, as proven by the universal praise from the three remaining judges.

“You’re like an angel — you sounded so pretty,” Kelly Clarkson quipped immediately after the performance. John Legend shared Clarkson’s enthusiasm, saying, “It sounded crystal clear! You blended with Jennifer so well.”

Remaining judge Robin Thicke also had nothing but positive things to say about the singing pair. “You’re singing with a beast over here,” said the soul singer. “When I told my mom I was doing this with Jennifer Nettles, she said, ‘Now that’s a real singer.’”

“Music comes through my soul, through my heart,” Glosson said in a clip just before taking the stage. “I try to mean every word of it.”

The incredible performance was well-received, giving Netttles and Glosson a third place finish following the delivery. Nettles is also on top with her performance of ‘Tonight‘ with first contestant J. Rome.
