Tuesday night, Kenny Chesney took the stage on ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ for the first time ever, but rather than bringing one of his own hits, he performed Bruce Springsteen‘s ‘I’m on Fire.’ The cover was part of a week-long tribute to the Boss in honor of his forthcoming record ‘Wrecking Ball,’ which drops March 6.

In his signature black cowboy hat and a black T-shirt, Chesney and his band did the 1985 hit justice, sticking closely to Springsteen’s version — even when it came to vocal intonation. Chesney did put his own spin on the song simply with his added country twang, but the melodic and nostalgic tune sounded similar to the original, which was Springsteen’s fourth single from his 1985 release ‘Born in the U.S.A.’

As Fallon points out in the clip, Chesney is set to begin a 20-stadium tour June 2. The country star, whose Grace Potter collaboration ‘You and Tequila’ earned him a Grammy nod for Best Country Song, will hit the road with Tim McGraw for his upcoming tour. The Brothers of the Sun Tour will kick off at Tampa, Fla.’s Raymond James Stadium and wrap Aug. 25 in Foxboro, Mass.

Chesney also earned some stripes early this year with nine ACM nominations for everything from Entertainer of the Year to Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Vocal Event of the Year and more.
