Kristin Bush is taking his writing talents to the stage. The singer-songwriter is penning a set of original tunes for a new play about country music in the 1950s.

The play, titled Troubadour, is a romantic comedy set in Nashville in 1951. The story follows the son of a country legend who works to honor his father's legacy with the help of a singer-songwriter and a rodeo tailor.

"Writing the throwback country songs for Troubadour was exciting, especially for an East Tennessee boy like me,” Bush says in a press release. "It was a joy discovering these characters, and a wonderful challenge to try and create hit songs for each of them that would fit in the authentic timeline of the story."

Troubadour is set to premiere on Jan. 18, 2017, at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Ga., with shows scheduled through Feb. 12. Ticket information can be found at AllianceTheatre.org.

The Sugarland member isn't the first country star to use his musical talents on the theater stage: In 2015, Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally created the score for Moonshine: That Hee Haw Musical, and Steve Martin and Edie Brickell‘s musical Bright Star has been a hit on Broadway, earning five Tony Award nominations in 2016.

Bush released his first solo album, Southern Gravity, in April of 2015. He recently signed a publishing, production and label deal with BBR Music Group, making Bush part of the label’s Wheelhouse Records imprint and Magic Mustang Music roster.
