Yakima Police said a woman in a red truck crashed into a brand new police cruiser late Thursday night.

Police said the officer was driving on Nob Hill Boulevard near Walmart, when the woman tried to turn onto 64th Avenue and crashed into the cruiser.

According to our news partner KNDO, both the police vehicle and the truck were totaled. Police said the loss of one of their new cars will cost a pretty penny.

"You're looking at probably close to with the car and all the technology, close to $55,000 in car and equipment," said Captain Rod Light with the Yakima Police Department. "So it's a significant amount."

Paramedics took the woman and the officer to a local hospital, where they were treated and released.

Police said the driver of the red truck will most likely be charged with failing to yield the right of way.
