• More than 70 Congressional Democrats are asking Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to delay the new law cutting food stamps.

According to a letter signed by the lawmakers the states need time to adjust their policies to accommodate the cut made to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in the farm bill and roll out the changes seamlessly.

New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is leading the charge. She is asking lawmakers to sign off on the letter asking Vilsack to delay the provision that cuts $8 billion in food stamp aid until next fall.

  • This week is National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Week.

More than a half-million students in all 50 states will share the importance of agriculture in our daily lives, spread their passion for agriculture and host community-wide events to help others in need.

This week-long tradition, which started in 1948, encompasses President George Washington’s birthday in recognition of his legacy as an agriculturalist and farmer. FFA was founded with the mission of preparing future generations for the challenges of feeding a growing population.
