Nothing like a big holiday meal and loads of company in town to make everyone a little stir crazy. Lucky for you, the Downtown Association of Yakima and City of Yakima have the perfect remedy to get you in the holiday spirit.

Tonight (Nov. 27) is the third annual Light Up the Plaza event, featuring Santa’s arrival, a lighting ceremony for the city’s Christmas tree and live music to get you in the holiday spirit. The event takes place in front of the Capitol Theatre, 19 S. Third St.

The party gets underway at 6 p.m. with the insanely talented Tim Snider putting everyone in the holiday mood with Christmas favorites.

At 6:40, be prepared to be awed and amazed as Santa and Mayor Micah Cawley help countdown the lighting of the Christmas tree in the center of Millennium Plaza. This 35-foot evergreen will be decked out with twinkling lights that will be sure to bring out the kid in all of us.

As you and your family are reveling in the holiday spirit, the Joseph Band will take the stage for a few more holiday classics.

While you’re downtown, be sure to head over to Ron’s Coin and Collectible between 7 and 9 p.m. for free pictures with Santa, or enjoy some warm beverages for sale from North Town Coffee.
