It’s been over a year since we’ve gotten an update on the new Little House on the Prairie movie. Last we heard, David Gordon Green had exited the project and was replaced by Martha Marcy May Marlene director and indie favorite Sean Durkin. And…that’s it. All’s been quiet on the little prairie since then. Today brings news that Little House on the Prairie has moved over to Paramount, which means the project may be closer to actually happening.

Following a few shakeups over at Sony, the Little House on the Prairie movie has relocated to Paramount, according to THR. Durkin remains attached to direct from a screenplay by Abi Morgan (Shame). Durkin made his feature directorial debut with 2011’s Martha Marcy May Marlene, and though he hasn’t directed a film since then, he’s remained active in producing projects with his BorderLine Films collective — a group that includes indie directors Antonio Campos (Christine) and Josh Mond (James White). Durkin also directed all four episodes of the Netflix drama mini-series Southcliffe.

Little House on the Prairie is based on the classic children’s books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, which inspired the long-running TV series of the same name, which aired from 1974 to 1983 and starred Michael Landon as the head of the fictional Ingalls clan, a family of pioneers living on the American frontier in the late 19th century.

Ingalls Wilder wrote nine books in her series, which was loosely based on her own experiences growing up in a log cabin. Although fondly recalled as a rather pleasant television show based on a quaint but beautifully written series of books, there are some rather dark and severe elements to both versions, including the prevailing racism of the time, death (due to both disease and misfortune), and — in one very notable TV two-parter— one character is sexually assaulted by a man in a creepy mime mask.

So, who’s excited for a Little House on the Prairie movie from the guy who brought us the quietly unnerving drama of Martha Marcy May Marlene?
