A new cutting-edge app has a meerkat running scared. Periscope, a live video streaming app has taken off since it was purchased by Twitter in March of this year. The goal behind live streaming apps is to take you places you normally wouldn't go and see life through the eyes of the user. The creators, Kayvon Beykpour and Joe Bernstein, sold the app to Twitter for a reported $100 million and have a staff of 25 listed on their website.

The app is fairly simple to use, and it's easy to create a profile -- especially if you already have an active Twitter account.

Comedian Jim Gaffigan and other stars have large followings on the app that's poised to change the way we see the world. On a larger scale, it will create a more transparent world through live video streaming, but it's also another voluntary step back in privacy. My friend Matt turned me on to the app, but bear with me as I'm still learning how to use it. It's a very interesting look into to lives of friends and celebrities I follow.

A word of caution, though: Not that I think like a criminal, but there are bad people who watch social media and this could make their job a lot easier when it comes to knowing if someone is home or not. Just things to be aware of as you allow unknown strangers into your private life.

You could also use the app to share events and other milestones with your friends and loved ones.

Meantime, watch for me on Periscope!
