Longtime big screen and TV character actor Danny Trejo brought his powerful story of overcoming addiction to a packed house at Thursday night's 33rd annual Merrill Scott Symposium on Alcoholism at the Yakima Convention Center.

Trejo held the sold-out crowd spellbound as he spoke of his own struggles -- which included prison time -- before he found sobriety through a 12-step program. Now, he said, his greatest satisfaction comes from being the father of three and working as an intervention counselor.

Trejo's roles range from "Desperado," "Heat," "Con Air," "From Dusk Till Dawn," "Machete," "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" to the "Spy Kids" films and his voice work in animated movies such as "Stork" and "The Book of Life."

The conference, sponsored by Sundown Ranch's Sundown M Foundation, also included Marvin Ventrell, Dr. Cardwell Nuckols and Ruth Herman Wells.
