Major Roadwork In Yakima Next Week Slowing Commutes
Drivers are being encouraged to avoid the intersection of 5th Avenue and Tieton Drive most of next week while a grind and overlay project is underway.
From next Monday, July 11th through next Thursday, July 14th, the intersection will be closed to traffic each day from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Additionally, there will be limited access to Tieton Drive between 4th Avenue and
7th Avenue during the project. Access to 5th Avenue will also be limited between Division Street and Pine Street. Flaggers will help drivers get to businesses and homes in those areas until the project is completed.
During the week of July 18th to July 22nd, crews will move north to grind and overlay
5th Avenue between Division Street and Walnut Avenue. Throughout that project,
5th Avenue will remain open. However, periodic lane closures will affect traffic in the area and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes if possible.
A grind and overlay project involves removing old and deteriorated asphalt and replacing it with new asphalt. The grind and overlay projects at the 5th Avenue/Tieton Drive intersection and on 5th Avenue between Division Street and Walnut Avenue will significantly improve the drivability and safety of the road surface.
