Mariners Playoff Hopes: So You’re Sayin’ There’s a Chance?!?!

Jim Carrey's character Lloyd Christmas said it best in the face of the most unlikely odds:
"So you're telling me there's a chance."

Such is the case with the 2016 Seattle Mariners.

With just 25 games left on the regular season schedule, the M's find themselves out of the second wild card slot by five games. But don't let that dissuade you from being hopeful about getting to the postseason for the first time in 15 years.

Jeff Passan, MLB columnist for Yahoo! ranked the remaining schedules for every team in the big leagues that still has even a remote chance of making it to, at least, game #163. according to him, Seattle has the 10th easiest out of 18 teams. His rationale:

"The Mariners have the 10th-best record in the AL. They are playoff contenders like the Marlins are playoff contenders, here only because the whims of baseball say that five games is not insurmountable, even if it necessitates a leap over five teams to get there. Seattle could well find itself fully out of contention by the middle of the week after a series with the Rangers, or it could set itself up for a trip to Oakland and Los Angeles where hay can be made. They’ve got ample days off and enough home games. They’ve also got about a 3 percent chance for all this to happen, according to move prediction algorithms."
