After finding an old love letter that Cefus had received as a teenager, I decided to search through my hope chest for some of my old correspondence.

I had completely forgotten about the letters I wrote to servicemen in Desert Storm!

The letters were in a bundle tied with a yellow ribbon given to me by one of the troops. Some had included American propaganda fliers (which were being dropped on the enemy at that time) inside their letters.

Reading back over the letters brings back the severity of the situation. I'm not sure at 16 years old that I really grasped this, but I did understand the danger. I don't know if I really realized how much they looked forward to those letters until now.

Their words still fill me with emotion:

Thank you for your Valentines card! It does the trick on cheering me up. I read it and look at your picture, It makes me feel good, thank you. I wish I could have got you something. There is not much out here but sand.

We are all set up for the ground attack. We can hear the bomb raids day and night. We can see oil factories burn. It is a little scary but not bad. The border is about 5 miles away. The enemy is about 16 miles away. They are just beyond the oil factories.

I just wrote because I was thinking of home and I saw your pretty face under my plastic writing cover.

I've lost touch with them, but I do know that they all made it home safe.

I would love to touch base with them to see if they even remember me. Does anyone know if there's a way I can search for them other than Facebook?
