Well, we are just in the middle of summer and already preparing for Labor Day and the up coming Sunfair Parade and CWSF. I have always enjoyed the excitement of the late summer festivities.

For the first time in 11 years there will be a Miss Sunfair and it marks the 50th Anniversary of the Sunfair

Eight girls will participate in numerous community service projects around the Valley, including helping with the nonprofit organization Children's Wishes and Dreams and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. 

The girl crowned Miss Sunfair will receive a $1,000 scholarship; first runner-up will get $500 and the second runner-up will get $400.

The finalists are Selena Santa Cruz, 16, Marisable Bravo, 15, and Brianna Marks, 15, of Eisenhower; Cassie Bowen, 15, and Marissa Rogers, 15, of West Valley; Anita Ibarra, 17, of Granger High School; Beth Johnston, 15, of White Swan High School; and Marisol Velazquez, 18, of Sunnyside High School.
