New Version of ‘Dirty Dancing’ Proves Remakes Rarely Work

I recently caught the previews for ABC's remake of Dirty Dancing while watching TV. Inside I cringed. Not because of the movie Dirty Dancing, but whenever I hear the world "remake."

Let's be real. Nothing can compare to the original movie, which starred the late Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray. But that's usually true of any movie or TV remake. The original wins out most of the time. There are rare exceptions, but they are few and far between.

I get that it's introducing the classic movie to a new generation, but how about airing the original once in a while? Call it ABC's classic movie night. Wow ... that just made me feel old.
