Pac-Man is heading to TV screens -- as a live-action game show.

Deadline.com reports that the popular arcade game will be developed into an unscripted series for TV.

Merv Griffin, president of TV show producer Roy Bank, said "the idea we have is to take what Pac-Man is and bring it to life, to bring what is essentially the world's biggest game of tag to television."

It's unknown if the televised tag game will involve contestants taking a bite when they catch someone, but Griffin described the show as a "big, crazy Wipeout-type event with a lot of energy."

The game is still hugely popular, as shown last year. When Google turned its logo into a playable version of the game, global business had a visible drop in productivity and profit losses of $120 million.

The hungry character has only once made it to TV before, as a short-lived animation in the early 80s which chronicled Pac-Man, his wife Pepper and their family's battle with the Ghost Monsters.
