Pippins Looking For Host Families

Courtesy: Yakima Valley Pippins

The Yakima Valley Pippins are seeking host families for players for the 2014 season and are now accepting applications.

“Host families are a vital part to integrating these young men into our community,”said Noel Zanchelli, director of operations for the Pippins. “Having a safe home, a second family, to share this experience with is important to their success and will extend another opportunity to share the quality of life that is found in the Valley.

While no financial compensation is provided, the Pippins will provide season tickets for each member of the household, a free parking pass to all Pippins home games, an in-season party event and a standing 15% off team merchandise during the season.

Here is the FAQ:
1. How do I return the application? You can fill it out and return it the following (3) ways:

  • a. Scan and email it to amber@pippinsbaseball.com
  • b. Drop it off at: 1301 S. Fair Avenue, Shattuck Building – Yakima, WA 98901

2. What does a host family receive? We recognize the expense and potential disruption to families’ schedules who are hosting our players. As a small way to say thank you, we provide:

  • a. Season Tickets to Stadium View seats for each member of your immediate family – we want you at the park each night!!
  • b. A Parking pass for the season
  • c. 20% off Pippins Gear all season long
  • d. A night on the picnic deck during the season where we celebrate with the host families as we watch our players compete in-game

3. When do players arrive and leave?

  • a. Players typically arrive between the end of May and middle of June.
  • b. Players, unless they are injured and have to leave early, will finish the season around August 15 (depending on post-season).

4. How many nights are they home?

  • Our players are on the road about 30-35 days during the summer, meaning they will be home about 30-35 nights during the summer.

5. What is the schedule like?

  • Their 10-12 hour game-day schedule will put the players at the ballpark typically around 2 P.M. Games finish around 9:30-10:00. Most players are home between 11 P.M.- 12 A.M. Road trips will typically have the team leave early in the morning, with returns coming later at night.

6. What do I have to provide?

  • We ask that families provide a room that is not shared with other family members (other players, i.e. two beds, is O.K.), access to a bathroom, and the ability to eat and live in a “normal family environment”. You don’t have to provide a car (although kind if you do), and most important create a safe and warm environment for these young men to get acclimated to our community.

You can reach the Pippins offices at 509-575-8304.
