Rascal Flatts recently earned another chart-topping single with "I Like the Sound of That," from their 2014 album Rewind. The song was written by Dan + Shay's Shay Mooney, Jesse Frasure and Meghan Trainor, but Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney knew right away that it was a solid, must-record tune.

"It’s just one of those songs that, when we all three listened to it, it never loses our attention," Rooney recently told The Boot and other reporters. "From the get-go to the ending, we always say, you can’t shoot holes in it. If it’s that good of a song, it’s probably going to be a Flatts tune."

Rooney says that the song's lyrics are current -- "It talks about blowing up your cellphone," he notes -- but relateable no matter your age.

"It talks about all of the stuff that the younger generation talks about in a hip way, but yet all generations get and understand," Rooney adds. "I think it’s very universal, I think it’s very hip and cool, and that’s exactly what we look for in a country song."

"And it was uptempo," LeVox chimes in. "We get a lot of those pitched to us, but to find great ones pitched to us that can have something of an impact are a little tougher, but "I Like the Sound of That" did that for sure."

In fact, "I Like the Sound of That" reminded the Flatts how fortunate they are to have a job that they love in Nashville, and how grateful they are for the songwriters who deliver hit after hit.

"It’s awesome to wake up every day and love what you get to do for a living," gushes DeMarcus, adding with a laugh, "I am a sucker for talent, and we knew we had to cut this song when we heard Shay’s vocal -- and all the licks he stole from Gary.

"I’m proud to be the one to deliver this song," he continues. "It’s great live to see so many people singing the hook back to us."

"I Like the Sound of That" is Rascal Flatts' fourth single from Rewind. The record's debut single and title track landed in the Top 5, while "Riot" became a Top 20 hit; "I Like the Sound of That" was the first Rewind single to hit No. 1.

"This album, Rewind, has been really special for us because it just, luckily, won’t go away," Rooney shares. "We had a little dip there, to quote Ronnie Dunn, years ago ... We wouldn’t be here 16 years later if it weren’t for this town and the fantastic songwriters and publishers that are working hard every day to find hits."

"I Like the Sound of That" is available for download on iTunes.
