Country singer-songwriter Ray Scott has something special to celebrate: he is newly engaged!

Scott popped the question to his girlfriend, Stacey Beard, on March 4. "We both kind of knew it was coming, so I chose to surprise her," he tells Country Weekly. Knowing that the timing was ideal, he chose a laid-back way to propose. After cooking breakfast for his girlfriend, Scott asked her to marry him. Of course, Beard happily said yes, and the rest is history.

“It was just the two of us. No big hoopla or event-type feeling. That would’ve been a cliché and somewhat expected by most. This is between her and me, the way it’ll always be," Scott says.

He is grateful that the proposal was a private, intimate affair with his beloved fiancee, whom he met in 2014. "It’s a happy time for us both. Everybody deserves to feel that way," he adds. They are also excited to celebrate with their family and close friends. While there's no word yet as to the wedding date, the couple is thrilled to begin planning their lives together.

Hailed as a traditional country artist by numerous music reviewers and critics, Scott released his third album in 2014. He filmed a new music video last week for his latest single, "Ain't Always Thirsty," which is a followup release to his quirky track "Drinkin' Beer." Fans can find both songs on his self-titled EP.
