Relay for Life, spearheaded by the American Cancer Society, managed to raise some big dollars over the weekend even with weather being less than satisfactory. I was doing the announcements late Saturday at Franklin Middle School and the sun and clouds came and went making for a roller coaster day of highs and lows. It speaks to the tenacity of the walkers on the track as they didn't allow the weather to hinder their enthusiasm and devotion to walking and raising money for the American Cancer Society.

The combined efforts of 44 teams and 606 participants raised $78, 879.52. It was an incredible 24 hours of fundraising, fun and entertainment. The Survivors Lap is always special and the rows of lighted Luminaria bags circled the track reminding walkers of the reasons why they raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Pulling together this annual event takes a tremendous amount of time for organizers and volunteers, but I'm sure they feel like the thanks comes through the money raised to combat this horrible disease.
