The House Agriculture Committee sent the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015 one step closer to consideration by the full House. By a voice vote, the committee passed the SAFE act, which now awaits the same action by the House Energy and Commerce Committee before it can be considered by the full chamber. The legislation, as said by the committee, will provide clarity and stability in the marketplace through national uniformity regarding marketing claims for products grown using the latest agricultural production technologies.

American Farm Bureau Federation President Bob Stallman announced Tuesday that he will not seek reelection in January 2016 following 16 years at the helm of AFBF. Stallman, a cattle and rice producer from Columbus, Texas, is the 11th president during AFBF’s almost 97-year history.
Under Stallman, Farm Bureau membership nationwide has grown by more than one million member families. A new AFBF president will be elected to a two-year term at the 97th annual meeting of voting delegates during the organization’s annual convention in January.
