Five local children are facing Christmas without their mother this year, and friends across the community are rallying to make the kids' holiday as bright as possible.

Jacalyn Palomarez, 29, died in a car accident earlier this month near Sunnyside, leaving the children -- ages 3, 7, 8, 10 and 15 -- motherless. But Elite Academy students are staging an all-day fundraiser this Saturday (Dec. 3) in Rainier Plaza, 2606 W. Nob Hill Blvd., to give the family a boost.

Santa and his elves will be among the people on hand for Saturday's event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Santa and his pals will be available for photos for children.

Meantime, Elite Academy students are offering haircuts, colorings, styles and massages for donations of cash, new toys or gently used clothing. To make hair appointments, call 575-5574. For massages, text 494-9039.

For more details on the event, contact Elite Academy instructor Ronda Knight at 494-9039.
