Most fans tuning in to Sunday's game probably wouldn't remember that the Seahawks and Broncos used to be bitter rivals in the same division for many years.

Seattle and Denver were each members of the AFC West from 1977 through 2001, along with the Raiders, San Diego Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs. The Seahawks moved to the NFC West in 2002 when the NFL expanded to 32 teams. Seattle was moved as the league formed eight four-team divisions, four in each conference.

In the early years, the Seahawks were an expansion team, and played like one, while Denver was a playoff team. The Broncos dominated early on, but things evened up some in the 80s a bit. Seattle and Denver have played 52 times, with the Broncos holding a 34-18 edge, but the Seahawks do have a playoff win over the Broncos in 1983.

How tough was the rivalry? Not too much video from that era exists, but this clip of Seahawks's Hall of Famer Steve Largent unloading on Denver's Mike Harden might give you an idea.
