I'm a huge fan of secret menu items. Those are those things you can order, but aren't on the menu. But when you ask for them, they usually know exactly what you're talking about. Like ordering a chicken-and-waffles sandwich at McDonald's by getting the McGriddle, but ordering it with chicken instead of sausage. Well I learned, simply by asking, that the bakery at Rosauers can do something special for you that just might be worth your while.

Any doughnut can be custard-filled

That's right, any of them.

This happened the other day when my daughter was looking for the custard-filled Bismarck. That's her favorite. They were all out, but the lady behind the counter said, "I can pump this chocolate doughnut with custard, it'll be pretty much the same thing."

I didn't know you could do this. I guess it's one of the benefits of Rosauers being one of the few places in Yakima that make their own doughnuts fresh in-house.

I asked if I could do this with anything. She assured me they could, all I had to do was ask. I also asked if I could share this information, and she was also happy for anyone to get the word out. It makes it fun for them.

They have something called the Kroughnut which is half doughnut, half croissant. It's similar to the viral pastry sensation from New York, but I want to say the ones in New York are filled with cream, too, so I asked for one of those for myself. It was glorious.

So, next time you're staring at the baked goods at Rosauers and nothing jumps out at you, consider this option.
