Yesterday was the last first day of school for my son Benjamin. He started his senior year at Naches Valley High school.

If this seems like deja vu ... well, yes. Last year my oldest son Mathew was a senior.

Having been through this last year doesn't make it any easier this year, though. It does help that I know what to expect as well as what it will cost.

I think it may in fact be more difficult, because when Benjamin was 14 days old he started having partial seizures. The family doctor rushed us to Children's Hospital, where they kept the CAT scan open just for him. The CAT scan showed nothing abnormal.

While at Children's they put Benjamin on medicine to stop his seizures. Plus, they performed a spinal tap to rule out meningitis. He also had to be sedated for an MRI and had an EEG. All at 14 days old!

Everything came back normal. The doctor kept him on his seizure medicine which stopped the seizures completely. He was on the medicine until about 18 month old when they decided to taper him off. This was a scary time because I was always worried the seizures would start back up. Thankfully, they never returned!

Benjamin has been our accident prone child -- split his lip open on Christmas Eve and needed stitches, was hit in the head with an aluminum bat and needed more stitches, fractured his arm playing baseball, fractured his back playing soccer, had knee surgery and suffered a concussion! I'm sure I'm leaving something out ...?

After all his struggles it's so wonderful to see the handsome young man that he's become and what his promising future holds for him.

Let's show the class of 2016 some love. Post a picture of your senior!
