The morning of Monday, May 22, a very good friend of everyone was taken suddenly from us. Nathan Thompson was found dead in his bed. He always came to Bike Nights and was a friend to everyone in the community. This Tuesday's (May 23) Central Washington Bike Nights at the Warehouse in Yakima, 11th Avenue and Tieton Drive, will be dedicated to Nathan and his wonderful memory.
Selah Community Days did not disappoint this year. People came out in droves to attend all of the festivities. It really was a milestone for the community. The parade brought more than usual. Half of the floats themes were about being a true American. Even the Selah queen and princess floats were designed to honor our country. To finish it off was the armed forces ceremony at Wixson Park. I was honored to be asked to be a part of it.
Selah Community Days has brought some fun things these past few days: the carnival, the parade, the amazing Hobo Feed and more. The last stop is the Armed Forces Appreciation Ceremony at noon, Sunday (May 21).
It blows my mind that once someone buys a lotto ticket they do not check it the next day. I try to buy a lotto ticket every time we get paid, just in case. When the lotto numbers come out, I watch for them.
Yup, I am that person. In the 24 hours I buy my lotto ticket and before they read the numbers, I have a list of things I am going to do. Yup, I am that person, too. New York sold a lotto ticket last year to someone at a deli.
The parade was fun, the music's great and that lemonade really hit the spot. But now that you're full of hot dogs, tacos, potatoes and Hobo Feed food, it's time to wander around the park and hit the carnival at Selah Community Days...
The way Selah does it, being a hobo doesn't seem all that bad. In fact, if you sidled up to one of those tables in the parking lot of the Selah Civic Center for Thursday's Hobo Feed, you might've been tempted to abandon all responsibility, hit the road and seek a more carefree life.
Yakima’s Memorial Day parade is next Saturday (May 27), starting downtown at 10 a.m. We would love to see you show your support for our fallen men and women of the military and to those you have loved and lost.
In Indonesia a huge sea creature was found washed up onshore. The locals there described it as being 50 feet long -- with tusks! Honestly, we really don't know about everything that is under us in the ocean. It is remarkable to me the things we see. No wonder there are so many legends of crazy creatures like "Nessy," Scotland's Loc Ness monster.
Selah Community Days is back this week (May 18-May 21), and you don't want to miss any of the action. It is always such a fantastic time. Kicking it off is the excellent Hobo Feed at the Selah Civic Center, 216 S. First St.
I am ready for Central Washington Bike Nights to get started! Our first stop is at Westside Pizza this Tuesday (May 16). Westside Pizza is all ages, so even if you don't ride, you can bring your kiddos. And this year we have a kid prize for them to sign up for -- a brand-new bicycle!
